Mercedes-Benz of Boerne can help you identify why your Mercedes-Benz shakes when idiling.
One of the worst feelings is when you notice your car shudder when driving. Is it a flat tire, did a pothole damage my suspension, or did I break the driveshaft? There are many components that may be the culprit as to why your vehicle is vibrating, and the potential damage can vary greatly. The most common cause of the shuddering generally occurs near your car’s wheels and tires. The rims and tires plant your car to the road, and if anything is a bit wonky, will notice. More seriously, it might be something like a broken transmission mount or a broken control arm. These more major failures might leave you stuck on the side of the road.

If you recently bought different tires, your car vibrating could be from the wheels and tires that weren’t balanced correctly. Balancing the tires makes sure the weight of the tires and wheels are evenly distributed for the most peaceful ride possible. So, if you notice the tire shuddering when you are driving, it could very well be an unbalanced tire. If you have confirmed that the tires are properly balanced, but your car is still shuddering, check to make sure the lugnuts are completely tightened, and make sure the tire pressure is correct. If your tires are causing the vibration, you should have it checked out immediately.
If your vehicle shudders when braking, that’s a pretty good gauge that you should have the brakes looked at. The most likely cause of your steering wheel shake is warped brake rotors. When a driver presses the brake pedal, brake pads compress against the brake rotors to create friction which will then stop your car. If you want smooth braking, you require a smooth rotor surface. A warped brake rotor surface will shudder when braking, like how a brick road feels bumpier than an asphalt highway. Other potential causes of the shaking include frozen calipers or damaged suspension components. If you notice your steering wheel begin to wobble, bring it to us, and we’ll check it out.
If your car is shaking before you ever start driving, then you probably have broken parts. The most obvious causes of your vehicle shaking at idle are:
The Driveshaft has Gotten Worn – If not perfectly balanced or damaged, it may cause shudders
CV joints That Have Gone Bad – Working together with the drive shaft, cv joints get the power from the engine to the wheels and, if they are failing, can be the source of your vehicle shaking in idle.
Broken Engine Mounts – As the name implies, these parts help secure the engine to the vehicle. If they get broken or just worn, it can let your engine vibrate.
